Blog 7 – Leverage

As I sit in bed flicking through my Sky+ planner, working out what to watch tomorrow, I find myself drifting off into contemplation over whether I prefer Hustle or Leverage, the new TV show from the US that’s just started showing here.

Both are similar in that they’re based around a crew of thieves, grifters or people with certain skill sets, all of whom come together to relieve, often wealthy, people of money or items for…

Well this is where we see differences. The Hustle crew seem to primarily pick their ‘marks’ from those who play fast and loose. There are the odd cons of people who have crossed them or done something to warrant a visit from them. But mostly it’s the mantra of not being able to con an honest man.

The Leverage group, so far, have only done jobs to help others. A man who had documents stolen, a recently disabled soldier etc. Both groups have their skills but the Leverage characters seem to make better comic use of theirs. It’s very well done.

They both are very good. I absolutely love Hustle, haven’t missed a series. However, I think I prefer the way Leverage is done. It’s funny, clever and has enough action to make it a bit more…exciting; glamourous if I can be so bold.

Leverage is shown on Bravo at 9pm on Wednesdays.

Hustle is on BBC1 at 9pm on Mondays.
