IRON MAN

h4h-blog

Whilst there is a red suit type thing involved, I’m afraid there’s no Marvel character to be seen. For those of you who don’t know what the Iron Man is, it’s a triathlon of mind-boggling scale. A triathlon in the sense that you swim, run and cycle over a set distance but unlike most triathlon the distances of each phase are slightly longer. Many triathlons stick to a formula similar to 400m swim, 21km cycle finished up with a 5km run, or suchlike. The Iron Man is broken down as follows:

  1. 2.4 mile open water swim
  2. 112 mile bike ride
  3. 26.2 mile run (a marathon)

joe_blogBut why am I telling you all this? Well, in August this year, my brother in law will be running the UK Iron Man for Help for Heroes. Help for Heroes are a charity who support our wounded and provide practical direct support to those servicemen and women wounded in the line of duty in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Having family and friends in the armed forces I think H4H do fantastic work and I’m happy to support them.

At the moment we’re in the processes of raising money for Help for Heroes for the UK Iron Man challenge, which is just epic. Rather him than me!

There’s also a Facebook group which I set up to raise some more awareness.
